Five Points - West Arts Village was inspired by the original Five Points train station as similar to the current site, the station had become a central hub for connections through the city. In this instance, Five Points - West Arts Village serves as a hub of influence for Georgia Tech and the surrounding communities along Marietta and beyond into the south-by-southwest neighborhoods.
The Georgia Tech comprehensive campus plan was considered heavily in the design and urban connections for the site. Though taking and continuing several already established ideas, such as the main goals listed below, we expanded upon the plan to accommodate and plan for several big changes. The new master plan includes the expansion of Tech Parkway’s width, the demolition of two large parking lots in favor of continuing the eco-commons, and the construction of new buildings along the ridgeline to gain efficiency and open viewpoints from Marietta Street to Tech Parkway and beyond.
Problem statement:
How can Arts Square become a center for exchange between Georgia Tech and the greater Atlanta area, and what methods of connectivity can be utilized to support an engaging and deeply integrated program?
Proposal:
The proposition, Five Points - West Arts Village, is a synthesis of strategic urban planning, pedestrian and community engagement, and a catalyst for creative endeavors.
A conjunction of the community’s character built upon connectivity, visibility, accessibility, creativity, and sustainability.
